Welcome to our review of the Bogler Trowel. The review is not sponsored and I purchased the trowel with my own money. With serrated edges, thin aluminum construction, and a plastic end cap, this trowel is very effective at cutting through sod and roots. Yet it's so lightweight that I was surprised at how well it worked. It’s easily as effective as the gardening trowel I use at home, but probably weighs one tenth as much.

Bogler Trowel: serrated on one side and leading edge

It's literally a small thing, but the plastic cap on the handle end allows you to apply more force to the trowel without it digging into your skin. In addition, credit those serrated edges for the Bogler Trowel's effectiveness at cutting through roots, but note that only one side of the trowel is serrated. I've heard from another Youtuber (shoutout to Justin Outdoors) that left-handed folks can find it difficult to cut roots with the non-serrated side...so lefties, you're warned!

Nonetheless, I love that it's approximately 1/2 the weight of some other popular lightweight options on Amazon. Once your day hikes get longer and more remote, you're quickly going to realize that anywhere you can save weight is going to make your pack easier to manage and your hike more enjoyable.

This trowel is pricey at $28.99 CDN or $17.95 USD, which makes sense as it’s targeted at the ultralight through-hiker market, but even for a day hiker, a few extra dollars is worth it to save some weight, especially when it functions so optimally.

All in all I recommend the BoglerCo trowel because it's incredibly light AND it's very effective at digging a cat hole even if you have to cut through roots.
